There were 6 students who were near perfect, answering 24 out of 25 questions correctly:
Abi Irick, Mackenzie Meyer, Matthew Morazan, Aaron Nguyen, Darnell Pascua, and Ashlynne Yap.

And the following 6th grade students achieved the Big Goal of 90% mastery, answering at least 23 questions correctly: Madi Bell, Sean Rooney, and Dylan Tao.

And the following 7th grade students also achieved the Big Goal of 80% mastery, answering at least 20 questions correctly: Grant Cooperman, Lindsay Cutler, Katie Lawson-Gill, Sara Mills, and Vy Truong.

Congratulations to all of our hard-working students!

I will be returning the tests on Friday and students will have a chance to re-work the problems that they got wrong (as practice and review) and will be able to re-take the test (for full credit).  Students needing assistance can get help in the homework center and math lab.  The re-take will take place in the Math Lab on Wednesdays or by appointment.

Next week is Benchmark week.  Monday, Thursday, and Friday will be a normal schedule.  On Tuesday, students will go to periods 1, 3, and 5 (with a morning break and lunch).  On Wednesday, students will go to periods 2, 4, and 6 (with a morning break and lunch).  Start and dismissal times for the school day will be the same.

6th Grade Announcements & Homework
We will be continuing our study of fractions by converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions, simplifying fractions, and multiplying and dividing fractions.  Since we are losing instructional time due to the benchmarks, there will be no quiz this week.

Homework for the week is as follows:

Monday (10/25): W.S. Equivalent Fractions
Thursday (10/28): WB 4-4 #4-12, 19
Friday (10/29): WB 4-5 #4-12, 19

Pre-Algebra Announcements & Homework
This week we will be building on our skills of equations and inequalities through working through word problems.  We will start some in class and the students will need to finish them for homework.  On Thursday and Friday, we will be looking at data and analyze it through box-and-whisker and stem-and-leaf plots.

Homework for the week is as follows:
Monday (10/25): Two-Step Equations Word Problems W.S.
Thursday (10/28): WB Pg. 81 #1-6
Friday (10/29): WB Pg.  79 #1-5

Week 8 - 6th grade Unit Test

Substitute on Thursday
This Thursday, October 14, there is a mandatory textbook training for 6th grade and Pre-Algebra at the District Office.  I will not be on campus and there will be a substitute teacher.  This is the second of a 5 day series.  Students will be working on a worksheet during class.  Homework assigned on Wednesday and Thursday will be due on Friday.  I expect all students to respect the teacher and work quietly.  The substitute teacher will be Mr. Lou Ayala, a former John Muir teacher.  Mr. A taught for 39 years and is a solid teacher and dear friend.

Homework Center and Math Lab
Homework Center and Math Lab are great resources for students to get help after school at school.  Homework Center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for 2 hours in the Library and there are math teachers that work there.  Math Lab is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays for 1 hour in room 802.  Both are free and students can come and leave at any time.  The late bus departs at 4pm for students wishing to stay, but take the bus home.

6th Grade Announcements & Homework
This week, we will be reviewing our integer skills through word problems.  We are sharpening our integer operations though the daily mastery challenges.  We are preparing for the Unit 2 Test, which will be on Friday.  Homework for the week is as follows:

Monday (10/11): Integer Word Problems #7-14

Tuesday (10/12): Integer Project (A, B, or C)
Wednesday (10/13): Unit 2 Study Guide #1-11
Thursday (10/14): Unit 2 Study Guide #12-25
Friday (10/15): No HW (Unit 2 Test today)

Pre-Algebra Announcements & Homework
This week, we will be delving into more complex problems involving the distributive property.  This is in preparation for solving multi-step equations containing the distributive property.  We will also begin looking at multi-step equations that have variables on both sides, where the students will have to combine like terms on both sides of the equation.
Homework for the week is as follows:

Monday (10/11): W.S. "What do you call a car that can go up cliffs?"
Tuesday (10/12): W.S. Distributive Property Matching
Wednesday (10/13): WB Pg. 21 #2-16 even
Thursday (10/14): W.S. Variables on Both Sides
Friday (10/15): No HW (Quiz today)
