Week 7

8th Grade

6th Grade
This week we are wrapping up the first unit on numbers.  Topics include greatest common factor, least common multiple, long division, adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing decimals, and dividing fractions using pictures.  Our test will be on Wednesday.  Each day, we will be reviewing in class.  Homework is as follows:

You can check out the videos for how to divide fractions on the special Dividing Fractions Page on the right side.

Monday (9/23) - Unit 1 Test Review

Week 6

8th Grade
On Monday, we will be reviewing the results of the Unit 1 Assessment.  This will be a detailed look at the assessment questions and the types of responses that earned full or partial credit.  Students will have an opportunity in class to re-work problems that they missed in order to get more credit.  Students will also be reflecting on the work from the first unit.

80% - 100% is considered Above Standard (3)
60% - 79% is considered At Standard (11)
26% - 59% is considered Below Standard (7)
0 - 25% is considered Minimal Success (3)

The class average was 61%.  The number in parentheses indicates how many students were in each category.  There one student with an outstanding performance, earning over 90%!  Congratulations to Matthew Lopez!

We will begin Unit 2 (Linear Equations) on Tuesday.

6th Grade
This week, we will learn how to divide fractions using pictures and diagrams.  On Monday, we will be dividing whole numbers by fractions where the quotient has no remainder.  On Tuesday, we will do the same thing except that the quotient does have a remainder.  On Wednesday, we will divide fractions by fractions where the quotient does not have a remainder.  On Thursday, we will do the same thing except that the quotient does have a remainder.

Homework is as follows:
Monday (9/16) - Dividing Fractions (due Wednesday)
Wednesday (9/18) - Unit 1 Quiz 4 Practice (due Friday)
Friday (9/20) - Unit 1 Quiz 4 today!

Week 5

8th Grade
This week, we will be reviewing for the Unit 1 Test, which will be administered this Thursday, September 12.

6th Grade
This week, we will learn how to use the greatest common factor in conjunction with the distributive property and we will extend the use of our Venn diagrams to be able to find the least common multiple.

Wednesday Exit Slip (GCF, LCM, and the Distributive Property)

Homework is as follows:
Monday (9/9) - Distributive Property WS (due Tuesday)
Tuesday (9/10) - LCM WS (due Thursday)

6th Accelerated
This week, we will be reviewing graphing points and extending the lesson to reflections.  We will also be dividing fractions (and mixed numbers) using pictures.  We will also be reviewing everything from the first unit since our Unit 1 Test will be administered this Friday, September 13.

Homework is as follows:
Monday (9/9): Dividing Fractions with Pictures Worksheet (due Tuesday)
Thursday (9/12) - Unit 1 Review (Solutions)

Week 4 - Back to School

Don't forget that this Wednesday is Back to School Night from 6pm - 8pm!  There will be treats in the classroom for those who are able to come.  I hope to see you all there!

8th Grade

This week, 8th grade students will be exploring the meaning of slope (rate of change) and determining a line of best fit within a set of points.

The Meaning of Slope
