Week 3

8th Grade

This week, 8th grade students will continue to analyze data in statistics.  Almost all students submitted their Scatter Plots project on Friday.  The Scatter Plots partner quiz will take place on Monday.  On Tuesday through Thursday, we will be looking at bi-variate data and there will be a quiz on Friday.

Post-Quiz Survey - only take the survey once!
Bivariate Exit Slip (Wednesday)

6th Grade
This week, 6th grade students will be multiplying decimals and completing long division.  The quiz from last week on greatest common factor and adding/subtracting decimals will be returned on Monday.  We will continue to review the GCF skills as well as estimating decimal answers this week.

Tuesday exit slip
Wednesday exit slip (DIVISION)

Homework is as follows:
Monday (8/26) - Multiplying Decimals worksheet (due Wednesday)
Thursday (8/28) - Project Rough Draft

6th Accelerated
This week, positive and negative integers will be introduced.  We will talk about why and when they are used in real world situations, graph rational numbers on the number line, introduce the coordinate place (all four quadrants), introduce absolute value and distance, and finally we will add and multiply integers using manipulatives and the number line.

Monday exit slip
Wednesday exit slip (Adding and Multiplying Integers)

Homework is as follows:
Monday (8/26) - Negatives, Absolute Value, and Distance WS (due Wednesday)
Wednesday (8/28) - Project Rough Draft (Final due Tues 9/3)

Week 2 - STAR Testing and more!

Welcome back, Falcons!

On Monday, we will be STAR testing.  This is a computer adaptive test, which means that each student will have individual questioning (a correct answer leads to a more difficult question and an incorrect answer or no answer leads to an easier question) that will zero in on a student's approximate math grade level.  STAR testing will occur several times a year to measure growth and possibly make schedule changes.

Week 17

This week, we will explore more percent applications in commission, sales tax, profit, and simple and compound interest.  We will also look at person-day problems, which are rate problems not covered in the textbook (e.g.  It takes 12 person-hours to paint a house.  If there are 8 people working, how long will the job take?)

Homework for the week is below:
