Week of 2/1/10

Grades are posted on the PIV and in the classroom.  I haven't completely graded all of the make-up work yet, so please bear with me.  Also, the math journal grades (for 6th grade) will not be entered until next weekend. 

This week, the 6th graders will be continuing working with percent problems by finding the sales tax, discount, and tip.  We will also be reviewing proportions since the Unit 4 Test, which covers proportions and percents, will be this Friday.

This week, 8th graders will continue to factor polynomials.  We will be learning a new method: the diamond method.  The Algebra 1 Unit 4 Test is tentatively scheduled for next week.  However, next week is also the week that we take our Benchmark test, so it may get pushed back another week.  Another option is to take the test at the end of this week.  Stay tuned for details.

This week, the 6th graders will be working on percent problems.  They will be finding the percent of a number and solving other percent problems.



Algebra students will be factoring polynomials.

*When is says "check answers", students must solve the problem and then check their answers by multiplying their factors to get the original problem.  They will receive credit for both parts.

Most students had a great first week back!  This semester, I am going to try to post grades in the classroom as well as the PIV, so you can ask your child about their grade each Monday.

Welcome back to school!

This new year is also the beginning of a new semester and fresh start.  I want each student to be successful and in order to achieve that goal, each student must be prepared with all necessary materials.  Every student must bring the following items to class every day:

• 2 Sharpened Pencils
• Math Journal
• Homework Journal

If this is a hardship, please contact me and we can work together to make arrangements.  This semester, students will earn participation/effort points for bringing these materials to class every day.
